The thing you use daily, but never learned 🤔

Hey Reader,

Welcome back! Don’t worry, I saved you front row, center stage.

Let’s talk about “Flanges”, “Astrophysics”, and your boring subject matter.

Neil deGrasse Tyson didn't make astrophysics less complicated.

He just made you forget it was complicated in the first place.

One minute you're half-asleep on your couch, and the next you're genuinely fired up about how the moon yanks the ocean around like a dog on a leash.

Nothing about the science changed.

Everything about the delivery did.

That's the magic trick hiding in plain sight for anyone who thinks their subject matter is "too dry" or "too niche" to hold an audience. Insurance. Flanges. Tax law. Doesn't matter.

Somewhere out there is a person who talks about that exact thing and makes a room "Lean in".

The information stays the same...

The performer makes it unforgettable.

Think about the best podcast host you've ever listened to. The one where you meant to listen for ten minutes and suddenly it's been two hours. They weren't necessarily talking about the most riveting topics in the world.

They just knew how to hold you. They asked the right questions, used the right words, and kept the energy alive long enough for you to actually care.

Now flip that. Think about the host who made a genuinely fascinating guest feel like a Monday morning staff meeting. Same guest, completely different result. The difference wasn't the content. It was the “communicator”.

Now here's something worth chewing on…

Throughout your entire education, you learned reading, writing, arithmetic, history, and maybe some dodgeball.

But did anyone ever sit you down and say, "Let's work on your vocal confidence"? The thing you use every single day and get judged on constantly?

Didn't think so.

That's where a conversation with me comes in. 😉

"Behind the Mic"

We did barrel rolls in a Learjet

Some people celebrate a win with champagne. We celebrated with two back-to-back snap rolls in a Learjet at 400 miles per hour.

Here's how that happened, Reader...

Back in my San Diego Morning days, we had "KCBQ Chopper 2."

We were the only Radio station with a “traffic helicopter”.

(Other stations had light planes)

The name alone made people assume we had a whole fleet of aircraft. We didn't.

But we also had "KCBQ 1," which was a Learjet we'd lease for big occasions and slap a giant vinyl wrap on to make it look like "Ours".

One of those big occasions was the Miramar Naval Air Station Air Show.

Our promotions genius, Jack McCoy, cooked up a scheme to set the

World record for traffic reports by flying from San Diego to LA at insane speeds while I called out traffic updates like some kind of supersonic traffic reporter.

We actually used the line, "Traffic reports faster than a speeding bullet!"

Our Learjet pilots were both former Naval fighter pilots who had flown into Miramar hundreds of times. Being a pilot myself, I was psyched to be able to hear the pilots getting ‘Landing clearances’.

But, when the copilot radioed the tower asking for "special circumstances,"

I was confused.

Then one of the pilots turned around and asked, almost casually,

"Hey, do you guys mind if we do a couple of ROLLS?"

(Hell no!)

Boom. Two perfect 360-degree snap rolls, back to back, with the kind of precision you only get from someone who has done it a thousand times.

Upside down in a Learjet over San Diego!

My morning partner, the “World-Famous Goat Boy”, was less enthusiastic.

But he held his lunch together and walked away with one heck of a story.

That is what happens when someone who really knows what they are doing takes the wheel.

Which brings me to something worth thinking about.

Hey Reader, I was worried about you! Now that you’re here, I can relax, and remind you… Your phone already knows your secrets. The gap between how you think you sound and how you actually sound is one of the most humbling moments in human existence. Not because you’re bad, but because nobody told you about the “ums,” the swaying, or the way your hands seem to have their own agenda. Here’s the good news: your phone is the cheapest, most honest coach you’ll ever have. Record yourself for five...

Hey Reader, By clicking ‘open’, you make me feel as good as hearing: “We see three good chutes, Integrity!” 👨🚀 I want you to stop being too “little”... and “Go Big”! Most people think vocal confidence is something you're either born with or you're not. Like it's some exclusive club with a velvet rope, and introverts just… didn't make the list. Julie thought the same thing. She came into our one-on-one last Wednesday with genuinely impressive technical skills, sharp ideas, and zero belief that...

Hey Reader, Thanks for choosing this over the 47 other things fighting for your attention! Time to get “real”... Odds are, your brain is lying to you about this… You've been "talking" your whole life. Since before you could tie your shoes, form a complete thought, or understand why adults found things "ironic." Words have been coming out of your mouth for decades. And yet the moment someone says "you're up"... at a mic, behind a camera, in front of a room, your brain suddenly acts like it's...
