Hey Reader,
I was worried about you! Now that you’re here, I can relax, and remind you… Your phone already knows your secrets.
The gap between how you think you sound and how you actually sound is one of the most humbling moments in human existence. Not because you’re bad, but because nobody told you about the “ums,” the swaying, or the way your hands seem to have their own agenda.
Here’s the good news: your phone is the cheapest, most honest coach you’ll ever have.
Record yourself for five straight minutes. No script, no prep, just go. You’ll run out of things to say around minute two — and that’s exactly where the interesting stuff happens. That’s where the real you shows up, filler words and all.
When you play it back (wait a full day! Trust me on this)… Do an “audio” review first. Phone face down, volume up. Then flip it and “watch” with the sound “off”. Finally, watch the replay normally.
You’ll see things you never noticed: Because THAT’S where the real version of "you" shows up. The filler words, the swaying, the “I’m thinking” head tilt. The hand movements that could direct air traffic.
It’s all there, and it’s all fixable once you actually see it.
Do this once a week for eight weeks. You’ll barely recognize the person you were when you started.
Want to stretch your brain a little further? Grab a random “Word generator” and talk about whatever comes up for three minutes. Get the word “duck”? Go for it. Talk about everything you don’t know about ducks.
The whole point is getting “Used to YOU”!
How your brain works, how your words come out, and where the rough edges are.
Great communicators aren’t born. They’re built, one recording at a time.
And if you want someone in your corner who’s spent 30+ years behind a microphone helping people find their voice, that’s exactly what a free One on One with Royce is for. No pitch, no pressure, just real, actionable feedback from someone who gets it.

He thought he was going deaf…
Some pranks last a day. Some last a weekend. And then there are the ones so perfectly engineered they send someone straight to a doctor's office.
Bill Stairs, one of the best program directors I’ve worked with (3 times!), was also a bit “devious”. He decided to convince our General Manager, Gary Taylor, that he was losing hearing in his left ear.
Not with a quick joke.
With a full month-long operation.
The entire air staff got recruited.
The rule was simple: whenever you were on Gary's right side, speak normally. On his left? Drop your voice just enough to make him wonder.
Week after week, Gary kept tilting his head, straining to catch words that were right there.
Then our engineer got involved, and things got truly diabolical!
A mercury switch rigged Gary's phone and headphones so the left side played about 15 decibels quieter than the right.
The man had no idea he was sitting inside a perfectly built illusion, Reader!
After weeks of this, Gary got concerned enough to book an appointment with an audiologist. Who, naturally, told him his hearing was completely fine.
It wasn't until Gary mentioned that the audiologist wanted him to follow up with a doctor that the team finally came clean.
He was relieved. He was not amused.
Here's what makes that story so impressive, though. Everyone played their role, the details were airtight, and the whole thing worked because it was carefully built around one person's "specific experience".
That's exactly how good coaching works, too. Not cookie-cutter advice.
A real conversation built around where you are right now.
If you're a podcaster trying to sharpen your interview skills or an event host wanting to keep your audience locked in, let's talk.
