Do this before you hit record 🤔

Hey Reader,

Hope you're staying cool!

Here in the suburbs of Phoenix, you can use leather seats to donate skin grafts!

Today, Let's get into…

The “messiness” is kind of the point.

Most people treat “self-recording” like a haunted house… they run in, scream at what they see, and never go back. That's the wrong approach, and it's costing you more than you think.

I understand how you feel about ‘watching’ yourself.

It's right up there with dental drills! But I can guarantee nothing will help you improve “Faster”!

Here's a little experiment worth trying today.

Open up your favorite AI assistant, whether that's ChatGPT, Claude, or whatever you have bookmarked, and prompt it with this: "If I want to get to know myself deeply, what 20 questions would you ask me?"

Now here's where it gets interesting. Do NOT read through all the questions first.

No preparing. No rehearsing.

Go in cold. Hit record on your phone and answer each question one by one, honestly and openly, like you're talking to a friend over coffee.

Then walk away. Don't watch it back. Not yet. Give it a day. Seriously.

You'll be way too ‘in your head’ right away, and that defeats the whole point.

(If you don't have my free guide: “From Mic-Shy to Camera-Confident”,

instant download below ⬇️)

When you finally do watch it back, you're going to see something most people never get the chance to see… YOU, unfiltered and unscripted.

How you naturally carry yourself when nobody's coaching you.

How you answer questions on the spot. The “real” you that your ‘listeners’ are actually experiencing.

And here's the bonus round...

Drop that recording back into your AI tool and have it transcribed!

Then ask it: "What words am I using that have no real meaning when it comes to my message?"

You'll probably be stunned by how many "ums," "you knows," and "kind ofs" sneak in without you even noticing. Seeing them written out is a game changer. Once you see them, you can't unhear them, and that's exactly when they start disappearing.

When you can actually see your “filler words” written out on a screen, they become impossible to ignore… and way easier to cut before they ever leave your lips.

This is exactly the kind of awareness that separates good speakers from unforgettable ones.

If you want to take this further, I'd love to spend fifteen minutes with you one-on-one. No pitch, no pressure. Just a real conversation about where you are and where you want to be.

"Behind the Mic"

When the sun kills your show…

Ever heard of a "Daytimer"?

Not the planner you shoved in your backpack in middle school.

I'm talking Radio stations forced to go OFF AIR at sunset.

Most people don't know (or remember) there were stations legally required to go completely silent at sunset. Not a slow fade, not reduced power. Off. Done. Transmitter cut. Like someone yanking the plug on the best party you've ever thrown.

That was the life of a "Daytimer"... and it was my reality early in my Radio career in Tucson. We had a killer lineup. Classic rock before anyone called it 'classic'. Tom Petty. Led Zeppelin. The real stuff. And we were GOOD.

The ratings? Not so much. We limped in at a .6 share. To put that in perspective, the #1 station was sitting pretty at a 23.8!

We were actually ranked BEHIND a station broadcasting in “Navajo”!

(The language.)

Something had to change, and change it did! The next ratings book?

We shot from that embarrassing .6 all the way to an 8.1!

(Still the highest ratings jump in Daytimer history!)

The “secret weapon”… Disco!

Glorious, sparkly, unstoppable Disco, Reader!

Suddenly we were #2 in the whole city. But every evening around 5:45, right when the phones were ringing and the energy was electric, I had to watch that bumper-to-bumper traffic through the studio window…

And KILL the transmitter!

That feeling when you're “crushing it” but have to stop?

Torture.

We finally figured out how to become the hottest station in Tucson.

Then every night...

Mother Nature looked at our ratings and said,

"Cute.

You're done."

Hey Reader, With FIFA wrapped up, the internet can finally argue about something else. Let's spend a few minutes talking about your voice instead. Your credibility has a sound problem. Most people spend years sharpening their skills, building their craft, and becoming genuinely great at what they do. Then they open their mouth and accidentally convince everyone they're a nervous intern on their first day. That's not an exaggeration. Your communication skills are either adding points to your...

Hey Reader, Hope you’re staying dry, cool & happy! My question for you… Is your voice a one-finger piano player? Most people think great speakers just "have it." That magnetic thing. That pull. That ability to make you lean in even when they're talking about something completely ordinary. But here's what's actually happening: they're playing 'music' while everyone else is reading a grocery list out loud. Words are made of “notes”, not just letters. Read almost any sentence five different...

Hey Reader, so glad you made it! Hopefully you're not 'melting' or knee-deep in water! (crazy weather) I'd love you to ponder this... Confidence is built in the checkout line The barista doesn't care. The cashier at Target won't remember your name. The person walking their golden retriever has already forgotten you exist. And that's exactly why they're your most valuable “practice” audience. Here's something that trips up a lot of people…They save their best energy for the "big moments." The...
